Project forum and decision making

Project Forum

A Project Forum has been set up to further young people's participation in decision-making processes in WRYPP. The role of the Project Forum, that meets on a monthly basis, includes:

  • To discuss and plan the services offered, activities and participation in budgeting
  • To influence other areas of the project such as the management committee, the renovation plans for the new building, and involvement in staff interviews
  • To provide opportunities to discuss and act upon wider community issues

Decision-Making Processes

In addition to the Project Forum, decision-making processes in WRYPP occur on a variety of levels:

  • Young people are involved in decisions through informal conversations in the drop-in and through group sessions, young people are also represented on the Management Committee.
  • Staff communication and decision-making occurs through planning sessions, daily evaluations and regular team meetings. Workers are also represented at the local Play and Youth Workers Forum, they have been present at Community Strategy Partnership, and the manager also represents the project at the Young People's Partnership for Denbighshire.
  • Another level of decision making is that of the monthly management committee meetings and the Annual General Meeting.

Informal Education

We have an informal ethos for involving young people in decisions through conversations and voluntary participation in the drop-in. The low key, relaxed atmosphere proves reassuring for most people who use the project, as it allows them to develop at their own pace. In addition group work sessions, facilitated by youth workers, are extremely valuable for young people to discuss, negotiate, make decisions, plan ahead and get organised.
